Reverse Transfer
Reverse transfer is the awarding of degrees to former students who complete the rest of the courses for their associate degrees at 4-year institutions. Additionally, sometimes unexpected events take you away from college prior to completion. In that case, it is good to have an associate degree for future employment opportunities.
Many students choose to transfer to a 4-year university before they fully complete their associate degrees. However, many of these students are only missing a course or two, and they usually take these courses in their sophomore or junior years.
WHY SHOULD I PARTICIPATE IN THE REVERSE TRANSFER PROGRAM?
- You may have already earned a degree. The associate degree can help you be more competitive for employment and earn more while working towards the bachelor’s degree.
- Life Happens. Obtaining a college degree is important in today’s competitive job market, but life does not always go as planned. The Reverse Transfer Program helps ensure you receive the degree you have earned.
- Increase your earning potential. Earning an associate degree can contribute to your earning power and is a marketable credential for your resume, immediately.
FAQs
The awarding of an associate degree to students who previously attended SLCC and fulfilled the associate degree requirements while working towards a bachelor’s degree at a participating university.
You must have completed/earned at least 15 college-level credit hours at one community college that will apply toward your degree to be eligible to participate.
For example:
- John attends community college A and earns 12 hours then attends community college B and earns 4 credit hours. Does this qualify? No.
- Maria attends community college A and earns 15 credit hours. Does this qualify? Yes.
Your associate degree then depends on the credits earned at the four-year institution. Each student’s credits will be evaluated to see if the combined credits meet the degree and graduation requirements.
Eligible students will be asked to participate when they transfer to one of the participating universities.
There is no cost for sending your information and awarding of the degree. If you wish to receive a printed diploma or to participate in graduation ceremonies, there may be a cost and SLCC will inform you of what you need to do.
