ACCREDITATION

South Louisiana Community College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award associate degrees. Contact the Commission on Colleges at 1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, Georgia 30033-4097 or call (404) 679-4500 for questions about the accreditation of South Louisiana Community College.

SACSCOC is one of six regional commissions in the country that accredits degree-granting institutions. Currently, SACSCOC accredits approximately 800 institutions in 11 southern states—Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia—and in Latin America. SLCC is one of the member institutions of SACSCOC, signifying that the college has a mission appropriate to higher education; has resources, programs, and services sufficient to accomplish and sustain that mission; and maintains clearly specified educational objectives that are consistent with the college’s mission and appropriate to the degrees it offers.

SACSCOC accreditation requires institutions to comply with the nearly 100 standards contained in the Principles of Accreditation: Foundations for Quality Enhancement. SACSCOC accreditation is necessary for SLCC because only accredited institutions are able to award federal financial aid to students and only credits from accredited colleges and universities are transferable.
