Student Groups and Organizations
SLCC is home to over 20 Student Groups and Organizations (SGO) that cover a wide range of interests, including academics, religion, recreation, politics, and service.
If you decide to join an SGO, you may enjoy being a member who attends the meetings and participates in activities, or you may want to take a leadership role and become an officer.
You may also choose to propose your own Student Group or Organization by submitting the form below, and you’ll be contacted by the Office of Student Engagement within two business days regarding the next steps.
All SLCC Student Groups and Organizations must abide by the regulations and processes outlined in the official SGO Handbook, and all forms referenced therein can be found below.
The mission of the African American Leadership Association, or AALA, is to cultivate, empower and unify the African American population across all South Louisiana Community College (SLCC) campuses. AALA aims to offer its members opportunities for both cultural enrichment and intellectual growth through educational and social programming, such as mentoring, leadership development and academic support, while connecting these students with faculty, staff and the campus community.

The purpose of Chi Alpha at SLCC is to be a diverse group os Christian students, staff, and associate members who are committed to serving the SLCC campus by: sharing the knowledge of life in Jesus Christ with the community; helping people in their relationship with Jesus Christ and providing them with training for victorious Christian living, leadership, and excellence; introducting its members to a local chursh family and other missions or ministry oopportunities; making a positive impact on the SLCC campus by developing students, equipped with bibilal solutions to contempoary problems, to serve every facet of the SLCC community and ultimtely the world.

The College Republicans strive to provide a thought-provoking space for students to discuss politics and collaborate on initiatives within the community. SLCC's College Republicans exposes students to the logistics and ethics of careers in politics, law, and community work.

The purpose of Content Creators Club shall be to provide members a safe, encouraging space to engage in their creative digital pursuits, collaborate on such with their fellow members, and increase general engagement with the community of South Louisiana Community College. All activities planned will promote the unique skills of the membership to both promote community at South Louisiana Community College, and to help the individual members develop self-confidence, self-esteem, and self-efficacy as they relate to their creative passions.

The Diversity and Inclusion Programming Board is a student group that meets regularly for the purpose of increasing inclusive practices, developing a college-wide framework for serving all students, and promoting cultural competency and sensitivity at SLCC. The Board will develop a safe space for all SLCC community members, specifically students, for discussions and celebration of differences. The Board will reach SLCC students, and community members, in all parishes where SLCC has an established presence. The Board is housed within the Office of Student Engagement and is supported by the Director of Student Engagement and advisor(s) including faculty and/or staff members.

The Gaming Club provides a community space to increase inter-departmental social interaction and comraderie. The goals of the Gaming Club are 1) to create a fun environment for students to use a common interest (gaming) to expand social circles and 2) to break social barriers that inhibit personal growth.

The Information Technology Club is a nonprofit student assciation organized exclusively for charitable, social, and educational purposes. The purpose of this organization is to enhance the education of members through in-house internships, IT industry internships, field trips and tours, informational workshops, visits with industry personnel and employers, community service projects at school and/or in the community, gathering and sharing information that will increase employment opportunities, and peer help with class assignments and administrative issues like registration, scheduling, and more.

We help students identify career goals, hone their leadership skills, and turn ambitions into action. As a member of the NSLS, you become part of a community of success-driven, like-minded people with access to professional leadership training, exclusive scholarships, an online job bank, networking events, a celebrity speaker series, enhancement of your professional resume, and more. SLCC Students who have completed between 6 and 45 hours with a minimum GPA of 2.5 are invited to join each semester. https://www.nsls.org/

For more than 100 years, Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society has helped millions of high-achieving college students reach their full potential. We don’t just recognize their academic success; we give them opportunities to develop professional and leadership skills, earn scholarships, explore career paths — and make their worlds a lot bigger. SLCC students who have completed 12 hours of college credit and have earned a 3.0 GPA or higher are invited to join PTK via email each semester. https://ptk.org/

The purpose of this student organization is to provide students with the opportunity to network and engage in campus programming that fosters a sense of community within the Practical Nursing Program. This student organization also promotes Practical Nursing student success and enhances Practical Nursing student leadership skills. Nursing leadership skills are developed with the student participation in health care, academic, and advocacy initiatives.
Membership is restricted to active Practical Nursing cohorts.

The National Student Nurses' Association is dedicated to fostering the professional development of nursing students. The purpose of the SLCC's Chapter is to instill nursing values, provide leadership opportunities, and give nursing students a voice nationally and within our school.
Currently enrolled ASN students who join the national organization form the membership of this local chapter.

The purpose of the True Life Change Organization is to change the lives of men and women through effective teachings of the Bible.

Umbrella Club is where students of all orientations and genders can celebrate diversity through awareness and education on our campuses and larger community. We encourage acceptance, tolerance and self-pride within SLCC through community involvement and support. All students and faculty are welcome to our meetings and events, as we strive to achieve a culture of acceptance and diversity on our campuses and in the community. We will plan activities to celebrate diversity and promote education throughout the year.
