MARITIME STRUCTURAL FITTER

Maritime Structural Fitters, also known as Ship Fitters, work in shipyards and construction sites to build and repair ships and other metal structures.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Our 12-weeks Structural Fitter program lets you master real-world skills, in a fast-paced, hands-on environment, where you'll learn how to weld, shape, and grind metal sheets, read blueprints, and use the necessary tools of the industry.

This course will prepare you to become an entry-level maritime structural fitter. You will learn to interpret many diverse types of structural drawings and use them to perform the proper fit-up of structure components. A structural fitter must have knowledge of welding and cutting processes, metallurgy, and safety.

The student will master the following skills: 

  • Welding safety 
  • Oxyfuel Cutting 
  • Base metal preparation 
  • Weld quality 
  • SMAW electrodes 
  • Tack welding 
  • Fire watch 
  • Structural fitter drawings 
  • Fitting I & II 

Credentials earned:

  • NCCER Core Curriculum
  • NCCER Maritime Fundamentals
  • NCCER Maritime Structural Fitter Level I
  • NCCER Maritime Structural Fitter Level II

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Age: 16+.
  • No High School, GED or HiSET required*

*A high school or HiSET diploma is required for most financial aid grant applications.
