Strategic Initiatives Drive Enrollment Growth at SoLAcc
SoLAcc achieved a significant 4.8% increase in enrollment for Spring 2024. This growth reflects the college’s innovative strategies to enhance student engagement and success. Key initiatives include personalized support through campus-based enrollment guides, who mentor new students throughout the enrollment process.
“This personalized approach has been a major factor in our enrollment surge,” said Collise Dupont, Executive Director of Enrollment Services.
A strong emphasis on full-time enrollment resulted in a 22.3% increase in full-time students. National data supports this focus, showing that full-time students are more likely to graduate on time and achieve their academic goals.
SoLAcc and LEDA Receive $885,000 Federal Grant for Workforce Development
SoLAcc and the Lafayette Economic Development Authority (LEDA) secured $885,000 from the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) to launch SkillUP for Economic Resilience. This workforce development initiative focuses on training for high-demand industries such as manufacturing, machining, and aviation mechanics.

The brand is built on four pillars: community connection, practical education, empowerment through skills, and the transformative power of learning. Its new logo reflects South Louisiana's geography, with an arrow symbolizing progress and connection.

SoLAcc Secures Nearly $500K for Mental Health Initiatives
SoLAcc received $477,937 in funding from the Louisiana Department of Health to bolster mental health services, expand education and outreach, and address the growing demand for behavioral health professionals. This grant, facilitated by the Louisiana Board of Regents and LCTCS, also supports the Medicaid Unwind campaign.

SoLAcc Shines at National SkillsUSA Competition
The college celebrated another stellar performance at the 2024 National SkillsUSA competition, held in June, where over 16,000 students, instructors, and industry professionals gathered. The competition featured state-level champions competing in rigorous, industry-standard events designed to showcase their expertise.

This initiative aims to strengthen workforce education, and SoLAcc’s Precision Machining program continues to thrive with this support. For year two, SoLAcc received $50,000 in funding to provide scholarships, training supplies, and outreach materials highlighting Metallica Scholars.
