POLICIES
- Tutoring appointments are scheduled through ConexEd.
- You may schedule appointments up to one week in advance.
- Scheduled appointments are limited to one hour per subject per day.
- Please note that you must schedule a tutoring appointment at least 24 hours in advance of the scheduled appointment time. Tutors need time to prepare for appointments.
- Tutees should attend tutoring sessions prepared with questions and a clear goal in mind.
- Tutors do not have access to the answers for assignments. They are not permitted to check answers or do full graded problems/assignments for tutees.
- Tutees must arrive on time for their tutoring sessions. If a tutee arrives late, tutors are not required to make up the missed time.
- The Tutoring & Writing Center is not a proofreading service. The tutors will not "fix" students' grammar problems nor rewrite portions of their papers. They will explain the areas of writing and editing where students have issues, guide them through appropriate exercises if necessary, and supervise them as they locate and correct errors in their papers.
- Students must cancel their appointment at least 24 hours before the scheduled start time.
- Students who miss two scheduled appointments (either by not showing up or by cancelling with less than 24 hours' notice) within two weeks will lose access to participating in the Tutoring program for two weeks.
- Students who have not arrived within 15 minutes of the appointment start time will be marked as a no-show.
All tutors and tutees must adhere to the College's policies on academic integrity, as outlined in the College Catalog.
Tutors may use homework problems as a reference during tutoring sessions, but they will not assist tutees with homework directly. Instead, tutors will review concepts and work on practice problems, such as those commonly assigned as homework and on exams. Students seeking help with specific homework assignments should consult the course instructor.
All Tutors (when acting in their tutoring role) are considered "Responsible Employees" regarding Title IX disclosures. If, within the context of the tutoring relationship, a tutee discloses information about an incident of sexual or gender-based harassment, including sexual assault, SoLAcc Tutors have a responsibility to share that information with the Title IX Resource Coordinator.
Tutoring is protected by the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
