South Louisiana Community College (SoLAcc) is celebrating another successful appearance at the 2026 SkillsUSA National Leadership & Skills Conference, where students competed among the nation's best career and technical education students June 1–5 in Atlanta, Georgia.
Representing Louisiana after advancing through the state SkillsUSA Championships, 10 SoLAcc students competed in healthcare, culinary arts, electronics, and skilled trades competitions. Among them, Katelyn Charpentier earned a Gold Medal in Medical Assistant, claiming the national title in her competition.
"Katelyn's achievement is an incredible accomplishment and reflects the dedication, preparation, and professionalism she demonstrated throughout the competition," said Dr. Toni Celestine, SkillsUSA Chapter Advisor and Associate Dean of Student Services at SoLAcc. "We're equally proud of every student who represented SoLAcc on the national stage. Competing at this level requires exceptional skill, confidence, and commitment."

Hosted annually by SkillsUSA, the National Leadership & Skills Conference brings together thousands of the nation's top career and technical education students to compete in more than 100 skilled and leadership events. Students earn the opportunity to compete nationally only after winning their respective state championships.
The annual competition challenges students to demonstrate technical expertise, employability skills, and professionalism in real-world scenarios judged by industry leaders. Their participation reflects SoLAcc's commitment to preparing graduates with the knowledge, hands-on experience, and confidence needed to succeed in today's workforce.
