South Louisiana Community College (SoLAcc) and the Foundation for SoLAcc awarded $216,109 in scholarships to 259 students for the Spring 2026 semester during the College’s annual Scholarship Reception held April 8 at the Downtown Convention Center in Lafayette.
For the first time, 75 of those students received non-competitive scholarships made possible through the Foundation’s endowed funds, expanding access to financial support for students who may not have otherwise received a scholarship.
The event brought together scholarship recipients, donors, community partners, and College leadership to celebrate the life-changing impact of philanthropy and student achievement.
“Scholarships like these create opportunity,” said Brittany Ducote, Development and Alumni Coordinator for the Foundation for SoLAcc. “Because of the generosity of our donors, students are able to focus on their education, complete their programs, and move confidently into careers that strengthen our communities.”
Recipients represented a wide range of academic and workforce programs, including healthcare, industrial trades, business, information technology, and transfer pathways. For many students, the scholarships covered a significant portion, and in some cases, nearly all, of their tuition and educational expenses. For donors, the impact is just as meaningful.
“Supporting scholarships through the Foundation is one of the most rewarding parts of our work,” said Sean Trcalek, President-elect of the Rotary Club of Lafayette. “Being able to meet the students and see firsthand how these opportunities are changing lives makes this one of the most meaningful days of the year for us. It’s an investment in their future—and in the future of our community.”
The annual reception also provides a unique opportunity for donors and students to connect personally, underscoring a shared commitment to student success across Acadiana. To learn more about scholarship opportunities or ways to support the Foundation for SoLAcc, visit the Foundation web page here.
