Community College Week Kicks Off March 24th

CC Week

South Louisiana Community College (SoLAcc) is proud to announce the celebration of Community College Week from March 24-28, 2025. During this week, SoLAcc will highlight its programs, students, staff, and the opportunities community colleges offer to students throughout Acadiana and the country.

The week will feature a Lafayette Campus Preview Day on March 25, where potential students and their families can learn about academic programs, admissions, and financial aid opportunities. SoLAcc Provost & Vice Chancellor for Academic & Student Affairs, Dr. Charles Miller, will open the day at 9:00am in the Devalcourt Lobby, then guided tours featuring our Mobile Career Unit, Mobile Simulator and more will start at 9:30am.

“This is an opportunity for high school seniors to learn about our campus environment,” explains Collise Dupont, Executive Director of Enrollment Services. “We want them to get a real understanding of the SoLAcc experience. Faculty, staff, and students will be on hand to provide guidance and answer questions about everything from admissions to workforce programs and financial aid.”

The Student Showcase will also be held on the Lafayette Campus on March 25 from 9:00am to 12:30pm. The Showcase is an opportunity for SoLAcc students to display their skills and showcase the cutting-edge technology and training available at the college.

"We are excited to host this event and showcase the incredible work our students have accomplished,” said Courtney Metz, Assistant Dean of Nursing Programs. "This event provides a valuable opportunity for the public, potential students, and local businesses to see the high-quality education and training our students receive, which prepares them for success in their future careers."

Additionally, SoLAcc will host a Scholarship Reception on Monday, March 24, at the Devalcourt Auditorium. During the event, 126 scholarships totaling $137,143.84 will be awarded to deserving students, reinforcing SoLAcc's commitment to student success and financial support.

A highlight of the week will be the official design and name reveal of SoLAcc’s new mascot. After hundreds of submissions to name the owl the college will reveal the standout choice.

SoLAcc's Community College Week provides a chance for the community to connect with the college, its programs, and its students.
