The SLCC Foundation Annual Fund benefits students through annual gifts from South Louisiana Community College’s partners and members of the community. This year $15,575 was raised during the Annual Fund Campaign that ran from November 15, 2022, to January 1, 2023.

“Every year we invite our friends and partners to support the causes that are closest to them, whether that’s the program that shaped their future, a campus in their community, or scholarships to help support more students at SLCC. When you contribute to SLCC’s Annual Fund, our entire community benefits from your generosity,” explains Lana Fontenot, SLCC Foundation President.

This year, helping students take a giant leap towards their future came with a special gift of SLCC-branded socks for donors. The “You + SLCC = The Perfect Pair” Annual Fund Campaign encouraged the community to contribute to quality education through academic scholarships and student aid.

The Annual Fund also provides opportunities for program improvements and training opportunities, which appealed to SLCC partner, Studer Education.

“Quality education and workforce training should be accessible to everyone,” explains Dr. Julie Kunselman with Studer Education. “This is the value community and technical colleges bring to their communities and reinforces the importance of supporting student scholarships to help reduce barriers for students interested in continuing their education and training.”

The funds allow flexibility for the college to allocate support to the most pressing needs of the college and students, for example, money can be put towards steel-toe boots for technical students, chef whites for an at-risk culinary student, a stocked food pantry, and more. Andre Breaux with SLCC partner One Acadiana explains these donations have a real-world impact.

“I know this donation makes a difference in the everyday lives of people. Some SLCC students already face an uphill climb, juggling jobs, and family responsibilities along with class. This money can ease the burden and ensure the education and training they are receiving is top-notch,” he says.

The next Annual Fund Campaign will be held later in 2023. However, donations are accepted year-round and can be made at www.solacc.edu/donate or by mailing a check payable to “SLCC Foundation” at 1101 Bertrand Drive, Lafayette, LA 70506.
