Dr. Dee Garrett to Address Spring Graduates May 13

Dr. Deiadra “Dee” Garrett, a board-certified pediatric surgeon from Lafayette, will address SLCC graduates during a 10 a.m. ceremony Thursday, May 13 at the Cajundome.

More than 500 candidates for graduation will graduate this Spring. This includes students from each of SLCC’s academic divisions: Business, IT, and Technical Studies; Liberal Arts and Humanities; Nursing and Allied Health; and STEM, Transportation, and Energy. In addition, students earning a high-school equivalency diploma from the college’s WorkReady U program will graduate.

Dr. Garrett’s practice focus includes minimally invasive endoscopic surgery and neonatal surgery. She earned a medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and later a doctorate in genetics from LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans.

She completed a pediatric surgery fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Maryland, a surgery residency at Alton Ochsner Medical Foundation in New Orleans, and a minimally invasive surgery fellowship at Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles. 

Dr. Garrett has served on the board or is a member of several organizations including the American Pediatric Surgical Association, American College of Surgeons, American Academy of Pediatrics, Lafayette Parish Medical Society, Louisiana Emergency Response Network, Lafayette Children’s Museum, United Blood Services, Hearts of Hope, and the Emergency Medical Services for Children Advisory Committee. She was a member of Leadership Louisiana Class of 2018.
