SLCC Expanding to Avoyelles with Realignment of Ward H. Nash Campus

As part of a strategic campus realignment plan to improve access to transferable general education and workforce training programs in rural communities, Central Louisiana Technical Community College’s Ward H. Nash Avoyelles Campus in Cottonport will be realigned with South Louisiana Community College. The realignment plan was approved by the Louisiana Community and Technical College System Board of Supervisors during its meeting Wednesday, April 12.

“By adding this campus to our family, we’ll be able to increase program offerings, enhance workforce training, and build partnerships with K-12 and higher education institutions with a focus on student success in this region,” said Dr. Vincent June, SLCC chancellor.

The realignment of the Avoyelles campus and its accompanying corrections education programs will become effective July 1, 2022, or as soon as possible thereafter. One of the most productive community colleges in the nation, SLCC has experienced growth in student enrollment and student success indicators, implementation of national best practices, and progressive fiscal management throughout the last several years.

“Today’s action by the Board of Supervisors is driven by the need to be more equitable in our program mix and delivery model as well as ensuring more students, specifically those in rural communities, have greater access to transferable and workforce training programs,” said Dr. Monty Sullivan, LCTCS president. “Additionally, the realignment will put a greater emphasis on placing CLTCC in a better position to achieve Southern Association of Colleges and Schools accreditation.”

Beginning now and continuing in the months ahead, college leaders will be working with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to get the Avoyelles campus under SLCC’s accreditation while simultaneously working with the U.S. Department of Education for various financial aid certifications.

In 2018, SLCC similarly acquired its Young Memorial Campus in Morgan City as part of a realignment plan with South Central Louisiana Technical College.

“I look forward to welcoming another community as part of SLCC’s footprint and serving the educational needs of more Louisiana citizens,” said June.
