Beginning in late July, SLCC’s Corporate College will offer a Medical Billing and Coding course in a classroom setting in addition to its online Medical Billing and Coding course.
The instructor-led classroom, 10-month course will be held Mondays and Wednesdays at the SLCC’s Lafayette Campus from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. With the course being held in the evenings, it makes it possible for those who want a second career or a career change to work during the day during their training.
“We are responding to requests from students that feel that the structure of a classroom environment is more effective for them than self-managed online courses,” said Margaret Beard, Workforce Training Coordinator for SLCC’s Corporate College. “With Medical Billing and Coding being a high-demand job, we want to ensure we are meeting the learning needs of those interested in a career in the medical field.”
Medical billers and coders process patient data, such as treatment records and related insurance information. Medical biller and coder professionals work in a wide variety of settings, including physicians’ offices, hospitals, medical billing service centers, emergency rooms, ambulatory centers, and insurance companies.
The United States Department of Labor reports that the demand for medical billing and coding professionals increases each year. Medical billing and coding is a great career path for anyone with a strong work ethic and a desire for a secure future that is full of many new and exciting career and service opportunities.
SLCC’s Corporate College was established in 2015. This division of SLCC offers short-term training for in-demand jobs to meet the needs of the community’s workforce.
