SLCC Announces Fall 2017 Scholarship Recipients

More than $30,000 in scholarships was awarded to students at South Louisiana Community College for the current Fall semester.

Through the generosity of companies and individuals in Acadiana, these students will have a portion or nearly all of their education for the Fall semester paid. Recipients include a diverse mix of majors at SLCC, from registered nursing and clinical lab technician to business and industrial technology. The students also attend a wide variety of SLCC’s ten campuses/instructional sites.

Scholarships and recipients include:

  • Acts of Kindness (AOK) Scholarship – Nicole Semar of Rayne. Semar is majoring in registered nursing.
  • Rotary Club of Abbeville/Chester Broussard Memorial Scholarship – Kelsey Choate of Delcambre. Choate is a business major.
  • Connections Women’s Scholarship – Eva Campbell of New Iberia. Campbell is majoring in Clinical Lab Technician.
  • Cox Communications Scholarship – Brittany Alexander of New Iberia. Alexander is majoring in registered nursing.
  • Cox Communications Scholarship – Laura Brasseaux of Crowley. Brasseaux is majoring in Clinical Lab Technician.
  • Cox Communications Scholarship – Kelsey Choate of Delcambre. Choate is majoring in business.
  • Elder Outreach Eastridge Nursing and Rehabilitation and Pelican Pointe Healthcare and Rehabilitation Scholarship – Jodie Jolly of Abbeville. Jolly is majoring in practical nursing.
  • Elder Outreach Southwind Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Encore Healthcare and Rehabilitation Scholarship – Genae Davison of Lydia. Davison is majoring in practical nursing.
  • Follett Educational Group Scholarship – Patricia Foster of Lafayette. Foster is majoring in business and industrial technology.
  • Follett Educational Group Scholarship – Brooke Garrett of New Iberia. Garrett is majoring in registered nursing.
  • Follett Educational Group Scholarship – Gavin Lemoine of Plaucheville. Lemoine is majoring in diesel powered equipment.
  • Johnston Street Java Scholarship – Brittany Alexander of New Iberia. Alexander is majoring in registered nursing.
  • Lt. Dronet Detachment Marine Corps League/Gulf Coast Bank Scholarship – Jodie Jolly of Abbeville. Jolly is majoring in practical nursing.
  • Never Too Late Scholarship – Nicole Semar of Rayne. Semar is a majoring in registered nursing.
  • Opelousas Kiwanis Club Scholarship – Johanna Carriere of Opelousas. Carriere is majoring in general studies.
  • Popeyes Scholarship – Tiffany Wilcox of Youngsville. Wilcox is majoring in education.
  • Ronald Stokes Memorial Scholarship – Eva Campbell of New Iberia. Campbell is a clinical lab technician major.
  • Ronald Stokes Memorial Scholarship – Lea Schexnider of Duson. Schexnider is majoring in practical nursing.
  • Samuel Savoy Memorial Scholarship – Holden Martin of St. Martinville. Martin is majoring in welding.
  • SLCC Faculty and Staff Scholarship – Savannah Bostian of Arnaudville. Bostian is majoring in practical nursing.
  • SLCC Faculty and Staff Scholarship – Johnathon Deshotel of New Iberia. Deshotel is majoring in registered nursing.
  • SLCC Faculty and Staff Scholarship – Tiffany Wilcox of Youngsville. Wilcox is majoring in education.
  • Social Science Psychology Scholarship – Julien Bonin of Lafayette. Bonin is majoring in information technology.
  • Social Science Psychology Scholarship – Meghan Campbell of Scott. Campbell is majoring in general studies.
  • Social Science Psychology Scholarship – Eddie Cooper of Lafayette. Cooper is in the Louisiana Transfer program.
  • Social Science Psychology Scholarship – Patricia Foster of Lafayette. Foster is majoring in business and industrial technology.
  • Social Science Psychology Scholarship – Daysherra Hines of Abbeville. Hines is majoring in business administration.
  • Social Science Psychology Scholarship – Audrie Outlaw of Lafayette. Outlaw is in the Louisiana Transfer program.
  • Washington State Bank Scholarship – Daysherra Hines of Abbeville. Hines is majoring in business administration.
  • Washington State Bank Scholarship – Brooke Romero of Breaux Bridge. Romero is majoring in business administration.

“Scholarships can tremendously increase students’ chances to persist in college and ultimately, finish their degrees or programs,” said Lana Fontenot, Associate Vice Chancellor of Institutional Advancement and Executive Director of the SLCC Foundation. “By lessening the financial burdens of college, our scholarship donors are truly paying it forward to positively affect the lives of our students.”

SLCC is a comprehensive community college that operates campuses in Abbeville, Crowley, Franklin, Lafayette, New Iberia, Opelousas, St. Martinville, and Ville Platte.
