FERPA Training for SLCC Employees

FERPA is the acronym for Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act. The Office the Registrar offers FERPA training. The training is designed to help faculty and staff understand the act and learn how to comply.

Online Training

The purpose of this interactive training is to provide basic FERPA training for SLCC faculty and staff. The college is legally and ethically obligated to protect the confidentiality of student records. Employees who are granted access to student records must take this online training module.

You should expect to gain the following from this tutorial:

  • Knowledge of laws and policies governing acceptable use and release of student records.
  • An understanding of your responsibilities in complying with these laws and policies.
  • An understanding of how to protect a student's right to privacy.

Below is the link to the training module. Everyone will need to take the FERPA 101: College and Universities. Once you click on this module you will see a link to access the course. Before you can access the course, you will be prompted the create an account. Once you have created an account you will then be able to begin the course. https://studentprivacy.ed.gov/content/online-training-modules

Once the course is completed you will need to upload your certificate to the below Jot form. Acknowledgement of FERPA Training (jotform.com)
