Welding
Students in our Welding program are prepared for gainful employment and to meet the needs of the welding technology fields. Instruction is provided in various processes and techniques of welding, including Oxyfuel cutting, carbon arc cutting, shielded metal arc welding, gas tungsten arc welding, flux cored arc welding, gas metal arc welding, plasma arc cutting, blueprint reading, weld symbols, and joints.
We have welding programs at our campuses in Abbeville, Crowley, Lafayette, New Iberia, Opelousas, St. Martinville, Morgan City and Ville Platte.

After completion of this three-semester program, the student will have covered the skills designated by the American Welding Society (AWS). Relevant coursework includes Occupational Orientation and Safety, Gas Metal Arc Welding and Flux Core Arc Welding, Shielded Metal Arc Welding, Advanced SMAW V-Groove, Electrical Fundamentals and Inspection, Gas Tungsten Arc Welding, and Manufacturing Procedures.
Graduates from our Welding Program can:
- Demonstrate integrity and a commitment to exemplary customer service.
- Use current industry standards, practices, and techniques.
- Demonstrate appropriate safe work habits when operating oxyfuel and electric welding equipment
- Use terminology associated with welding to communicate effectively with co-workers, supervisors, customers, inspectors, engineers, and vendors
- Interpret blueprint welding symbols to fabricate components
Upon graduation, students go to work as Welders, Structural Welders, MIG Welders, TIG Welders, and Flux Core Welders.
