Federal Student Aid Changes: What SoLAcc Students Need to Know About OB3

Changes to federal student aid are taking effect for the 2026–27 academic year, and SoLAcc students who receive or plan to apply for financial aid should be aware of how the new requirements could affect them.

The One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA), also referred to as OB3, was signed into law in July 2025 and made several changes to federal student aid programs. These changes include new requirements related to Federal Pell Grant eligibility, federal student loans, Parent PLUS Loans, borrowing limits for students enrolled less than full-time and student loan repayment options.

What does that mean for SoLAcc students? The impact will vary depending on each student’s individual circumstances, including enrollment status, financial aid eligibility and previous federal student loan borrowing. Some continuing students may also qualify for exceptions from certain new requirements.

SoLAcc’s Financial Aid Office has developed a Frequently Asked Questions resource to help students understand what is changing, when the changes take effect and how they may affect financial aid eligibility.

Students are also encouraged to monitor their SoLAcc email and LoLA account for financial aid updates and contact the Financial Aid (email: OfficeFinancial_aid@solacc.edu; Call: 337-521-9621) with questions about their individual eligibility.
