Faculty Senate Committees

In order to stay consistent with our mission as laid out in the “Statement on Shared Governance” presented to the Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs, the committee structure will reflect the different areas of responsibility as defined within that document.

NOMINATIONS AND ELECTIONS

The Nominations and Elections Committee is responsible for preparing recommendations of nominees for membership on certain Senate committees and providing these recommendations to the Executive Committee. The Nominations and Elections Committee will also assist in the search for President-Elect and/or Senator vacancies as they arise. This committee provides consultation for membership on other college committees as requested by the President of the Senate. This committee will keep records of current Senators, senate terms, and Senate committees.

ACADEMIC DEVELOPMENT

The Instruction Committee is primarily tasked with staying abreast of, reporting to the senate, and making suggestions regarding all aspects of instruction at SLCC. This committee may also contribute to the creation of instructional policies or procedures. The committee will report on changes to instruction, curriculum, student evaluation, and standards. Representatives from this committee should attend each meeting of the Academic Standards and Curriculum committees, as well as Instructional meetings.

SERVICE

The Service Committee is primarily tasked with reporting to senate on opportunities for faculty service to the community, college, and/or students. Further, the committee should also make suggestions to the full senate for further opportunities for service in these areas.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

The Professional Development Committee solely oversees opportunities for professional development for faculty. The committee should coordinate with the various departments within the college in order to report any pending opportunities for professional development. The committee should be equally committed to identifying what areas are lacking in professional development opportunities. Where deficiencies are identified, the committee is further tasked with facilitating professional development opportunities.

FACULTY ENRICHMENT

The Faculty Enrichment Committee will work to create any necessary proposals for changes to faculty contracts, compensation, rank and promotion procedures, and yearly evaluation procedures

FACULTY MEDIATION

This committee is an as-needed committee to give the senate input on pending grievances between faculty and administration. The committee will review complaints, grievances, and pressing concerns of faculty member(s) and submit a written recommendation to the appropriate administrators at the College. This committee holds a high standard of confidentiality when assessing and reviewing complaints.

● The President-Elect is the chair and only permanent member of the committee. As need arises, the committee will be populated with current sitting senators on a rotating basis initially determined by random lot. This structure is intended to make the committee most responsive when need arises.

WAYS AND MEANS

The Ways and Means Committee is tasked with strategizing and procuring finances for the senate. This committee will work with other senate committees as needed to assist in reaching goals that require funding.
