What do you need to bring?
  • ID/Driver’s License
  • Social Security Number (you will need to know this to be able to log on to the test)
  • Payment $15.00 (for all 3 sections) or $5.00 for each section of testing
 
Testing Procedures
  • Arrive to test no later than 2 hours before the Campus closes for the day.
  • Stop at Cashier’s window before testing to pay testing fee.
 
What do you need to know?
  • Students are allowed to take the COMPASS test only one time for placement. Any retesting must be approved by the Vice Chancellor for Student Services or nominee.
  • Testing fees are nonrefundable.
  • The test is administered on a computer.  You must contact the Campus two weeks prior to testing if you are going to need special accommodations to test.
  • No outside calculator is allowed. You are to use the calculator provide when you get to the Math portion of the compass. The calculator tab is located in the upper right hand corner of the screen.
  • You should study and prepare to take the compass exam because you are allowed to take it only once. (See reverse side of sheet for study guides)
  • Your test scores will be available immediately after you have completed the testing session. 

 

INSTRUCTIONS FOR MAXIMIZING YOUR TEST TAKING PERFORMANCE
 
WHAT IS COMPASS?
COMPASS is a comprehensive, computerized skills survey system that measures your:
 
                                      *Reading Skills             *Writing Skills               *Mathematics Skills
 
  1. COMPASS is not a pass or fail test.
  2. COMPASS test is computerized. The system is very user friendly and computer skills are not required.
  3. COMPASS is not timed. You have as much time as needed to complete the Placement Test. Total time varies for each person, but should allow approximately one hour for each component of the test.
  4. COMPASS is adaptive, most students will see test questions become more or less difficult based on previous answered questions.
  5. COMPASS scores give you an opportunity to demonstrate your knowledge level and academic skills.  Your performance on the test will determine your placement level in developmental courses and/or college-level courses.
 
TESTING COST:
$5.00 per subject (Reading, Writing/English, Mathematics)                     $15.00 Total (All Components)
